Bio
Van Middleton began studying photography at university as part of his undergraduate journalism degree. Following university he worked as a teacher and freelance photojournalist for several overseas magazines and newspapers. In 2007 he was commissioned to travel to North Korea to document the country which had tentatively opened up to a select number of western tourists. (DPRK Photo Essay) After returning from the DPRK, he continued to work in South Korea, travelling to various countries in the region to pursue his passion for photography and travel. When he returned to Australia he studied Screen and Media, with an emphasis on motion and still photography. He has since worked as a Director of Photography for several short films and produced, shot and edited a documentary on the Korean War that has been shortlisted for screening by the History Channel in 2010.
In 2009, Van was invited to photograph a wedding for a friend. He enjoyed the experience so much he decided to open his own boutique wedding studio. Van now works as a wedding and event photographer around the Gold Coast, Northern NSW and Brisbane regions. His work is influenced by his documentary and journalism background, with a contemporary, artistic bent.
