FAQ

I like your photos and your prices, what’s my next step?

Check my availability! I do all my photography myself, and don’t train staff to do my shoots for me, so unfortunately I’m not always available. Check out my calendar to see if I have your date free.

I like your photos and your prices and you’re available, what’s my next step?

Send me a message via my contact form! I’ll get back to you within 24 hours. If you’re still interested we can then arrange a meeting to discuss our packages and what you can expect from me. I can show you some prints and a photobook or two, dazzle you with my ipad2 portfolio, and convince you that I’m the best photographer for you and your special day!

I’m happy to travel to your place for the meeting, or we can meet at a third location like a coffee shop or cafe.

What would describe as your shooting style?

Difficult question, and hard to put into words. I often imagine how a writer would answer the question: could you please explain your writing style, by drawing it in a picture? The best way of understanding my style and whether you think it fits with your own personal taste is to browse through some of my galleries. This will epxlain more than I can in writing. Having said that, I really, really prefer to spend at least 7 hours at a wedding (and usually longer), so that I can capture the feeling of the entire day, rather than taking a few contrived snapshots. I suppose this puts me in the “Documentary” category. I also prefer natural, candid shots to posed images – but having said that, a wedding is a wedding, and classic, formal images are always in my photo spreads. After all, they’re the ones that grandma and granddad will put on the wall. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

I also like to use natural light where possible, and tend not to carry my lighting kit on location. I find it slows me down, and has a habit of killing spontaneity.

Can we meet you before our day?

Absolutely. Most of our clients like to meet prior to the wedding, although some are happy (or constrained by distance) to meet on the day – it’s entirely up to you whether you want to have a chat in person first or not. I’m very happy to visit you with some sample photos to show you some of our previous work and discuss your wedding day with you.

Do you use digital cameras?

Yes, we use the latest canon DSLR equipment, as well as state-of-the-art L-series lenses to make sure that the images we capture are of the highest quality. We also carry spare equipment just in case.

How intrusive will lighting, tripods, equipment or assistants be?

We try our hardest to be as unobtrusive as possible – this helps us capture the most candid moments, and allows you to enjoy your day without the extra hassles. In saying that, it’s impossible to remain completely out of sight all the time!

How many photographers will attend our wedding?

That’s entirely up to you! Our package options will give you a good idea of how much one and two photographers will cost. For larger (and longer) weddings, we recommend two photographers to help manage the formal shots and capture all the guests and the even from several different angles. More photos often means better photos!

Do you travel interstate and overseas?

Absolutely. Hit us on our contact page with specifics.

How many photos will be taken during the wedding?

There is no limit to the number of photos we take, although it’s generally relative to the time we spend at the wedding. For big weddings, and with two photographers, we can easily take well over a thousand pictures.

Do we get a DVD with the high-res images on it?

Yes, you get several! We include the original photos we take on your wedding on disk (as a rule of thumb, 500 for a silver package), as well as a folder of the selected shots, a duplicate folder of black-and-white copies, and another folder of the best shots photoshopped in different styles. This will make the task of managing your memories that much easier!

What about copyright? Do I have the rights to my wedding photos?

Yes. You have all rights to the photos we take on your wedding day except commercial rights, which we reserve. In other words, you can share and distribute them as much as you like with family and friends in any format you want, but you can’t sell the images for profit.

What is your payment policy?

Once you decide to go ahead with us, we require a $200 deposit to secure your date. This can be paid in person or by paypal or direct deposit. We’ll send you the details when you request a booking.

I noticed that some of your photos have a film look – how does this work?

Thanks for noticing. I love post processing, and I’ve been known to give clients dozens of different treatments of the same photo. Through trial and error and endless experimentation, I think I’ve managed to figure out how to emulate certain types film stock in my digital images, which is nice.

Do we need to provide you with dinner if you stay for our reception?

No. I’ll leave that entirely up to you, and won’t hold s grudge if you’d prefer I brought along my own food. When I hire a plumber to fix my bathroom, I’m not obligated to feed him too, so you’re not obligated to feed me, especially when you’re paying so much for my services. Having said all that, I won’t knock back a nice meal ;)

How far do you travel?

Intergalactic photography is something we’ll need to talk about, otherwise I’m open to going anywhere. I have upcoming shoots in Darwin, Bali and Fiji, so don’t be afraid to ask. You’ll need to pay for my accommodation, airfares and a $500 stipend if you want me to catch a plane somewhere, but it may just be worth your while!
