Rebecca & Phil – Kingscliff

Rebecca and Phil flew in from Darwin for their wedding. It involved, as most weddings do, a great deal of planning and work, but they both pulled it off in style, and the wedding ran smoothly from beginning to end. Both of them work in the military, and I suppose this had something to do with their good organisational skills; I was also very impressed by their friendliness and decency to everyone involved, not just friends and family, but to the people they had hired to work at their wedding. I was given my own seat with the guests and was thanked for my work, which was very nice. Even more impressive was when Phil invited the cooks out from the kitchen during the speeches to thank them, with an ovation, for their food, which had the two men beaming with pride. They were courteous, friendly and big-hearted throughout.

The wedding itself went beautifully, helped in no small part by the elegant, stately bride, who had the whole beach at Kingscliff enthralled as she walked down from the dunes to her waiting husband-to-be. The weather was sunny and the wind was light; the guests were upbeat and the mood was festive. All the ingredients were right, and the nuptials didn’t disappoint. Afterwards, we went to nearby Cabarita for some photos and then returned (a tad late) for the reception, which was both fun and formal, as all good receptions should be. Following the bridal dance I bid the newly-weds good-bye, and wished them (as I wish them now) a long and happy life together.

I hope you enjoy the sample photos, guys!

Jodie & Colin – Cabarita Beach

Jodie & Colin got married on Cabarita beach, on a blazing summer day. They both got ready at nearby Mantra, and returned to the Salt Bar for their reception.

It was as beach weddings should be – bright, merry and informal. Jodie looked absolutely stunning as she walked down the wooden path to the beach, and evidently a great many guests thought the same thing, because a wave washed through the crowd as she approached and most people didn’t even notice until they were ankle-deep in salt water. Luckily the ocean retreated again as she approached, and the nuptials proceeded without a hitch.

After the vows were spoken and rings exchanged, we went for a walk to the headland, the bridal party frequently resting for refreshments, which had the added benefit of adding extra joviality to proceedings. When we had finished with the photos, we returned to the reception, with dusk fast on our heels.

The rest of the night went by quickly. I had the chance to take a few more photos by the pool, and then I bid the newly-weds goodbye, to enjoy the rest of the night, and their lives, together.

Congratulations, and I hope you enjoy the sneak peak below!

Stacey & Charlie – Cabarita

I recently had the great good fortune to be invited to photograph the wedding of Stacey and Charlie, which took place at Cabarita. Groom and grooms-men were dressed in traditional Scottish attire, including kilt pins, sporrans and whisky flasks, and looked like they’d walked straight out of the highlands. Stacey and her bridesmaids kept to tradtitional anglo wedding attire, and looked absolutely stunning.

The ceremony was a simple and beautiful affair, which took place under a copse of pandanus trees near the beach. Afterwards, we went down to the sand and took some photos, and then went to the Cabarita Headland for some more photos with the ‘lovedub’ combi van they had hired for the day. Stacey and Charlie were wonderful subjects – very easygoing and lots of fun.

When we had finished we went to Mantra on Salt Beach for the reception, where I took a few photos and then left them to enjoy the rest of their evening. There was one last surprise before I left: a Scottish Bagpiper, who led the couple in to a standing ovation.

Beautiful.

Hope you liek the sample pictures, guys; many more to come!

Martin & Marnie – Tallai

A little while ago I shot the wedding of Martin and Marnie. They decided to rent a big old house on the Panorama, Tallai, with views over the Gold Coast and Advancetown Lake. I’ve always been a fan of the idea of renting a place and having the ceremony and reception on site – makes things much simpler and more intimate, both for the bride and groom and the guests.

Anyway, Martin and Marnie both got ready in different parts of the house, and then set off down to the “backyard” – a grassy clearing in bushland on a high ridge overlooking the hinterland, and ringed by old eucalypts. It was a wonderful setting, and the guests and magpies were all settled in and ready for the show by the time the groom walked down, in company with the best man.

But I’ve gotten ahead of myself. While Marnie was getting ready, Martin had snuck down to the trail and had scrawled a message on one of the trees, which you can read below. A few images on and you’ll see Marnie’s delight when she discovered the sign.

So Martin waited with the guests, a picture of nervous anticipation, and at length Marnie arrived on her father’s arm, glowing – there’s no better word to describe how she looked. And then they met, and exchanged vows and rings and a long kiss, and the rest is history, as they say.

We took some photos around the big old clearing, under the eucalypts and the gallery of magpies, and then it was back to the house to join the guests, who were already uncorking the champaign and embarking on what was to be a long night of revelry.

A memorable wedding, a beautiful couple, and (I hope) many pretty pictures to tell the story of the day in years to come.

Thank you for having me guys! Enjoy the preview – many more to come!
