Leah & Leroy – Burleigh Heads

Leah and Leroy got hitched on New Years Eve, at Burleigh Heads. The weather wasn’t perfect, but it was great for photos, with just enough cloud cover to soften the light and add some drama to the sky.

Leah and Leroy were also great subjects: confident, handsome and happy. The ceremony was solemn and moving, and the reception at Oskars was an absolute picture, with a view giving out over Burleigh Beach, the sound of waves crashing against the strand beneath the restaurant, and a sea-breeze keeping the summer night cool. I wasn’t there for the whole reception, but I was there long enough to hear some speeches and soak up some of the atmosphere before I left. It was a wonderful day.

I wish you guys all the best for the future and I hope you like the sample photos! More to come!

Laura & Mick – Burleigh

Laura and Mick got married at Burleigh heads, on the Gold Coast. It was a beautiful wedding, and the bride and groom were ebullient throughout the day. There are a lot of factors that go into good wedding photography, but for me the most important thing is that the subjects that are happy and excited and expressive – and this was the case for Laura and Mick. I hardly directed them at all, and simply kept a watchful eye out for moments of mirth and nerves and joy and snapped away.

There were plenty of such moments.

I won’t describe the day and where it took us, because I think the photos below tell a  better story than I could with words. I was honoured to have been a part of it, and it was a mark of how much fun I had being there, that when I left Oskars at the end of what was a long day, I felt renewed: full of energy and inspiration, and itching to get back home to my own beautiful wife. Weddings can do that to you.

I hope you like  the photos, guys! And thank you for having me :)

Katie & Nathan – Burleigh Heads

Last weekend I had the great pleasure of photographing the wedding of Nathan & Katie Lawler. I started out with the boys at the Swell Resort, Burleigh, and afterwards moved on to the Mediterranean, where the bride and bridesmaids were getting ready. Next I moved on to Mick Shamburg Park to await the nuptials – along with a very healthy crowd of onlookers! It was a typically gorgeous winters day on the Gold Coast, and the bride completed the picture when she arrived. Beautiful!

After the ceremony we took some photos around the area, then made our way back to the North Burleigh Surf club, where the reception was held. Some great speeches, with the best man’s address a highlight.

A great wedding, and a wonderful couple. All the best, guys!

Lucy & James – Burleigh Heads

I was lucky to have recently shot the wedding of Lucy and James Parsons. I love these weddings: happy, beautiful couple, outdoor ceremony, lovely location and great family and friends. Lucy got ready at Peppers, Broadbeach and the ceremony took place down the road at Mick Shamburg Park, North Burleigh. The weather threatened all morning, and we almost had to shift it to the nearby North Burleigh Surf Club. Thankfully a storm passed us by to the south, the rain cleared up, and we were blessed with soft light and a cool sea-breeze – perfect for photos! The ceremony went off without a hitch, and afterwards we went for a walk up to take some pictures. Lucy had an idea to shoot at a nearby garage, and it turned out to be a stroke of genius; we managed to get a great vintage photo in front of the old doors. Afterwards we ambled to the nearby reception at the surf club, where a night of merriment ensued!

Great wedding – congratulations!
